Fue creado para el desarrollo de investigación de la actividad cerebral y comportamental de procesos cognitivos, afectivos y sociales (con potenciales relacionados a eventos -ERPs- como principal técnica) en patologías neuropsiquiátricas. Desde esta mirada, nos centramos en la psicología experimental, las neurociencias, las ciencias cognitivas y neuropsiquiatría para el estudio de claves contextuales, coordinación del lenguaje e información no lingüística, toma de decisiones e integración de valencia semántica, procesamiento de expresiones faciales y claves sociales.
Desde el inicio de su actividad, el laboratorio ha logrado una gran cantidad de contribuciones científicas en las áreas de la neuropsiquiatría, la neurociencia social, y la psicología cognitiva y experimental. Muchas de estas contribuciones han sido logradas mediante colaboraciones con centros internacionales de excelencia tales como la Universidad Heidelberg, La universidad de Chicago, la Universidad de Wisconsin, y el MRC de Cambridge, entre otras.
