<td>Though well established for languages acquired in infancy, the role of embodied mechanisms remains poorly understood for languages learned in middle childhood and adulthood. To bridge this gap, we examined 34 experiments that assessed sensorimotor resonance during processing of action-related words in real and artificial languages acquired since age 7 and into adulthood. Evidence from late bilinguals indicates that foreign-language action words modulate neural activity in motor circuits and predictably facilitate or delay physical movements (even in an effector-specific fashion), with outcomes that prove partly sensitive to language proficiency. Also, data from newly learned vocabularies suggest that embodied effects emerge after brief periods of adult language exposure, remain stable through time, and hinge on the performance of bodily movements (and, seemingly, on action observation, too). In sum, our work shows that infant language exposure is not indispensable for the recruitment of embodied mechanisms during language processing, a finding that carries non-trivial theoretical, pedagogical, and clinical implications for neurolinguistics, in general, and bilingualism research, in particular.</td>

<td>En esta revisión mostramos que los circuitos sensoriomotrices del cerebro cumplen un papel determinante en el procesamiento de palabras de acción adquiridas a partir de la niñez media y en la adultez.Múltiples estudios sobre las segundas lenguas de bilingües tardíos y sobreaprendizaje de lenguas artificiales en adultos muestran que dichas palabras implican activaciones de mecanismos cerebrales motores y afectan la realización de movimientos físicos. Se sigue que la exposición temprana al lenguaje no es indispensable para que la información léxica se enraíce en los llamados “circuitoscorporizados”.</td>

<td>Alzheimer’s disease (AD) and frontotemporal dementia (FTD) are the most common neurodegenerative early-onset dementias. Despite the fact that both conditions have a very distinctive clinical pattern, they present with an overlap in their cognitive and behavioral features that may lead to misdiagnosis or delay in diagnosis. The current review intends to<br />
summarize briefly the main differences at the clinical, neuropsychological, and behavioral levels, in an attempt to suggest which aspects would facilitate an adequate diagnosis in a clinical setting, especially in Latin American and low- and middle-income countries, where the resources needed for a differential diagnosis (such as MRI or biomarkers) are not always available. A timely diagnosis of AD and FTD have significant implications for the medical management and quality of life of patients and careers.</td>

<td>Los efectos categoriales observados en pacientes y en controles podrían ser producto de las características estructurales de los seres vivos (SV) y de los objetos inanimados (OI) en función de su mayor o menor semejanza estructural. La Hipótesis Pre-Semántica de los Efectos Categoriales (PACE) supone que los SV y OI se verán favorecidos/desfavorecidos en función de las demandas perceptuales de cada tarea. Con el objetivo era indagar posibles efectos categoriales en denominación y categorización por medio de dibujos en blanco y negro y a color. Los efectos categoriales aparecen en denominación y categorización de dibujos en blanco y negro y en categorización de dibujos a color. El efecto desaparece en denominación con dibujos a color. Los resultados acuerdan parcialmente con los postulados de la hipótesis PACE.</td>

<td>Insights on the neurocognitive particularities of expert individuals have benefited from language studies on professional simultaneous interpreters (PSIs). Accruing research indicates that behavioral advantages in this population are restricted to those skills that are directly taxed during professional practice (e.g., translation as opposed to reading), but little is known about the neural signatures of such selective effects. To illuminate the issue, we recruited 17 PSIs and 15 non-interpreter bilinguals and compared behavioral and electrophysiological markers of word reading and translation from and into their native and non-native languages (L1 and L2, respectively). PSIs exhibited greater delta-theta (1–8 Hz) power across all tasks over varying topographies, but these were accompanied by faster performance only in the case of translation conditions. Moreover, neural differences in PSIs were most marked for L2-L1 translation (the dominant interpreting direction in their market), which exhibited maximally widespread modulations that selectively correlated with behavioral outcomes. Taken together, our results suggest that interpreting experience involves distinct neural signatures across reading and translation mechanisms, but that these are systematically related with processing efficiency only in domains that face elevated demands during everyday practice (i.e., L2-L1 translation). These findings can inform models of simultaneous interpreting, in particular, and expert cognitive processing, in general.</td>

<td>En este estudio investigamos correlatos electrofisiológicos del procesamiento léxico experto. Para ello, medimos modulaciones cerebrales oscilatorias en intérpretes simultáneos durante tareas de lectura y traducción en su lengua nativa (L1) y su lengua extranjera (L2).En comparación con bilingües no intérpretes, estos profesionales demuestran mayor potencia en la banda delta-theta (1-8 Hz) en todas las tareas, con mayor velocidad de procesamiento sólo en las de traducción y asociaciones entre dichos efectos sólo para la dirección de traducción más ejercitada en su práctica cotidiana (de L2 a L1). Así, parece que los efectos de la experiencia en interpretación son más marcados y sistemáticos para aquellos dominios que más exigencias enfrentan durante la práctica profesional.</td>
