Effects of early stress on alcohol consumption.

Effects of early stress on alcohol consumption.

Exposure to stressful situations during the first years of life has been shown to have profound consequences on the growth and development of an individual throughout life. Early side effects increase the risk of post-traumatic stress, depression, and addiction to drugs of abuse, such as alcohol. We will study the cognitive alterations induced in the offspring by maternal stress. If the alterations in central structures are verified, they will allow predicting vulnerability in adult life, it will help to deepen the knowledge of the etiopathophysiology and neurobiology of complex diseases of the nervous system, enabling the design of early prevention strategies that lessen or prevent the appearance of behavioral disorders in adult life.
