Dr. Pedro Bekinschtein – General Director of Research

Dr. Pedro Bekinschtein is a researcher at the Institute of Cognitive and Translational Neurosciences, CONICET- INECO Foundation- Favaloro University. He is a biologist and doctor from the University of Buenos Aires. He graduated from the Colegio Nacional de Buenos Aires and studied biology at the Facultad de Ciencias Exactas y Naturales of the Universidad de Buenos Aires.

He did a doctorate as a scholarship holder of the National Council of Scientific and Technical Research (CONICET) at the Institute of Cellular Biology and Neurosciences of the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Buenos Aires. He studied the biological mechanisms of memory persistence. Additionally, he did a three-year post-doctorate at the Department of Psychology of the University of Cambridge in England investigating how the boundaries between memories are established and erased. He returned to Argentina with a position as CONICET researcher.

He currently directs the Laboratory of Molecular Cognition and co-directs the Division of Translational Neurobiology. He is a member of the Civil Association “Expedición Ciencia”, dedicated to promoting scientific thought and science education. He publishes in various scientific journals and is the author of “100% Cerebro”, “100% Memoria” and “Neurociencia para (nunca) cambiar de opinión”, three books on the popularization of neurosciences.
