Brain and Society: The role of Neurosciences in designing better public policies

The 12th International Symposium on Neurosciences organized by the INECO Foundation will be held in Buenos Aires, Argentina. On this occasion, the topic will be “Brain and Society: The role of Neurosciences in designing better public policies”.

The application of the scientific knowledge to understand the real behavior of people is one of the great promises of the last decade, supported by multiple experiences in several countries. This application can contribute to the restructuring of public policies in diverse fields such as education, health, justice, citizen behavior, social and techno-cultural transformations, care for the environment, savings and other applications of social interest.

Neurosciences, together with other behavioral disciplines, offer great potential for designing new, more complex and comprehensive interventions with profound implications at different stages of life. By understanding the mechanisms involved in the interaction between the environment, the brain and human behavior, neurosciences can contribute to the understanding of the cognitive, affective and social processes that guide our behaviors and decisions in society.

The Symposium will focus on the incipient role of cognitive neurosciences and their dialogue with various behavioral sciences and innovation applied to the public sphere. It will seek to create a fertile environment for discussing recent developments, and to promote collaborations among neuroscientists, psychologists, economists, social scientists and policy makers, among other disciplines, in order to enhance social development and improve the life quality of citizens. For this purpose, it will have a panel of renowned international and national researchers on the different topics.

Symposium Topics:

  1. Education
  2. Health
  3. Political behavior
  4. Economic behavior
  5. Gender and public policies
  6. Technology and behavior
  7. Law and justice
  8. Poverty and egalitarian development
  9. Neuroethics

About the International Symposium on Neurosciences organized by the INECO Foundation

Since 2007 the symposium is held with the main objective of discussing the latest advances in brain research, addressing the key areas of basic and clinical neurosciences. Due to its long history, the symposium is established as one of the most important neuroscience events in the region.

About INECO Foundation

Created in 2008, the INECO Foundation supports research programs aimed at understanding the neurobiological bases of the most complex brain processes and promotes academic projects aimed at perfecting the prevention, detection and treatment of neurological and psychiatric disorders.

Its key principles are interdisciplinary work; the relevance of research projects for society; the international impact of its research; and the generation of awareness about neuroscience topics in the community.

Among other recognitions, INECO Foundation won the Kónex Award 2018 as one of the 5 most outstanding health entities of the decade in Argentina (2008-2017).
